Slovenska Bistrica (Oct2011): CESLA project presentation at Slovenska Bistrica 2nd Elementary School

The CESLA project partners (UM-FERI and TECES) visited Slovenska Bistrica 2nd Elementary School during the Children’s Week on 4 October 2011. For last three grades pupils (7A, 7B, 8A, 8B, 9A in 9B), we prepared technical professional workshops, which were carried out in two parallel sets.

At the beginning of the workshop, each class was divided into two groups, whereby one group listened to a brief presentation of the CESLA project and efficient use of energy in the traffic sector, the other group went to the school playground where pupils carried out demonstration drives with electric vehicles and filled in worksheets with energy and electric vehicles topics. After 20 minutes the groups changed, thus each class was acquainted with both, the theoretical background of the project and practical driving with an electric bike.

In the presentation in the classroom, the pupils listened to a brief presentation of the CESLA project and ultra-light electric vehicles. To illustrate the electric power importance in the traffic sector, we talked with them about energy, where it was stored and which sources of energy we knew. They were presented the notion of the energy efficient use in traffic, and how ultra-light electric vehicles could contribute to this.

The practical part of the workshop was held in the school playground. The pupils filled in worksheets with energy and electric vehicles topics, and carried out demonstration drives with electric bikes, an electric scooter and an electric motor scooter. At the end of the workshop, the pupils were asked for a written feedback to the workshop. The given feedback will provide us with an overview about the knowledge and the interest of the children of the age of the participating pupils and their assessment on the workshop implementation.

Wishing that in future the pupils would several times encroach on more ecological way of transport, and hoping that the CESLA team has contributed to this, in thanks and safe way into traffic we awarded the pupils reflection stripes.

We render thanks to the entire staff of Slovenska Bistrica 2nd Elementary School, who nicely received us and provided for undisturbed course of workshops. We particularly render thanks to the Headmistress, Mrs. Sonja Arbeiter, for the invitation to participate. She enabled the CESLA project team to present itself and fulfil its purpose to implement ultra-light electric vehicles into the environment.
